The pre-dental implant surgery planning procedure starts with a visual examination of the doctor on the site where the dental implant will be done along with a study of dental imaging which would include a CT scan or panoramic films or and x-rays etc. During this process, the doctor determines the quality and quantity of jawbones and decides whether more bone may be required at the site to perform the dental implant. This initial planning stage of determining whether the dental implant will be performed or not is crucial which should be examined by a very efficient and experienced dental implant surgeon like Oracare dental implants, and once the surgeon takes the decision of performing the dental implant surgery, the patient needs to go through the surgical procedures. During the dental implant surgery, the patient is normally given local anaesthesia to numb the implant location or other sedatives for more comforts and normalization of anxiety.
In most cases of dental implantation, the doctors extract the remaining of the damaged tooth from the site where the dental implant will be performed. Similarly, after extraction of the remaining damage tooth, the doctor usually places an alveolar bone or a synthetic or cadaver bone at the location of a dental implant in order to create a solid base of bone for the dental implant. This will require a period from two to six months in order to heal.
On the other hand, if there are no remaining of damage tooth at the site of the dental implant, the doctor places a different bone graft which is called on-lay bone graft at the dental implant location. This procedure is considered more time taking and it may take a minimum of six months or even more to heal. However, there are also instances when the doctor finds enough bone base for the dental implant, may directly perform a dental implant after extracting the remaining of the damaged bone. This procedure of the dental implant is called immediate implant placement.
In the case of “sinus augmentation” or when the air-filled spaces found in the facial bones, the sinus augmentation or sinus lift is performed in order to graft more bones into the sinus as well as to raise the sinus floor resulting in the availability of more bone base for a dental implant.Once there is adequate bone base, the doctor gets ready for the dental implant surgery.
